In God's original design of creation, He commissioned Adam and Eve to multiply and fill the earth. He desired to fill the earth with images of Himself that reflected His glory and lived under His authority and rule in relationship with Him. When Adam and Eve rebelled, the commission did not change. Jesus Christ is now restoring the broken images and commissions them once again to multiply and fill the earth. God’s heart is for people to be transformed to live like Jesus and multiply like Him as well. Bible study, prayer, fellowship with other believers, and suffering are all elements of how He transforms us. Jesus modeled how these intentional and powerful practices combine to form intensive discipleship. Jesus' heart was to launch a movement that would reach the ends of the earth and result in a people from every tribe, tongue, and nation being transformed by the power of the Gospel and multiplying. Jesus' method was to intensively invest in a few men over a period of time that they might be launched out with a foundation to pursue transformation and multiplication for a lifetime. The model that was impressed upon their hearts and lives, as they sought to make disciples of all nations, was exactly what their Savior had done with them. Discipleship is His pathway for the transformation and multiplication of His people.
At Grace Church we seek to apply Jesus' model and method to our context. We champion this kind of intensive discipleship, and have defined it as a 2- to 4-year intentional, life-on-life investment in a few that is focused on key areas of growth, with the goal of multiplication that follows the model of Christ and the 12 disciples. At any given time we have discipleship groups of 3 to 5 people meeting throughout the week to study the Bible, hold one another accountable and seek to live mission-ally in our city. Discipleship at Grace is built more on organic relationships. If you are interested in learning more about it click here to email us.
